Cloud computing was initially developed for the business benefits. But with the evolving technology, its advantages have been realized by other fields as well. As a result, clouds are readily installed and used in schools. This technology has provided the necessary alternative to the brick and motor schooling. It facilitated the students with an opportunity to interact with their ever increasing group of peers irrespective of their geographical locations. Though cloud computing might readily prove to be cheaper and advantageous for the school authorities, but let us discuss how it benefits the students: -
- Learning Environment: - The cloud computing expands the student’s learning environment beyond the classroom doors. It facilitates students with the virtual classes within their home environment. The school administration can effectively manage the load on support staff by the use of clouds. The students can be provided with three days classes in schools and two days of virtual classes which they can take anywhere. The schools which do not even advocate the virtual classrooms can use cloud computing to enhance the class’s learning experience. As with the audio-visual aids, the students can retain the knowledge for longer.
- Group projects: - Students can use cloud computing to complete the group projects assigned to them without being physically together. They can work on shared sheets and complete their work from the comforts of their home. In addition, the students can complete their home-works and submit the file to their teacher, thus avoiding any possibility of forgetting their home works at home.
- Virtual access to the teachers: - A public school student avails the facility of a teacher for an average of 5 hours in a week. And that time is also divided amongst 60 other students in the class. But with cloud computing, they can clear their doubts by putting their queries online. Thus, an efficient problem solving duly helps them to study effectively which reflects in their improved grades.
- Easy access to notes: - Teachers can upload their class notes and the students can consult when ever they want to. In the usual class room structure, the students had to wait for the teacher’s class to get their doubts cleared or to consult the subject notes. But with the help of cloud computing, the students can structure their learning process as per their capacity and capability without being bothered about advancing or lagging behind the class course.
- Higher education: - Another benefit of cloud computing is for the higher education. Many universities cannot provide the students with modern hardware and software amenities, but with the help of cloud computing such universities can easily overcome this drawback. The students can avail the facilities like latest technologies and can even work on the available simulators to have a good understanding of the subject.
Cloud computing is equally beneficial for the school authorities and students. As students can avail the technological facilities like never before, the authorities no longer have to bother about the up gradation of the soft-wares they use, thus solely focusing on effective teaching. Some universities have the tie-ups with the business firms which facilitates the students with an access to their clouds and surf for the required information. For e.g. a relocation service called Man and Van, provides the university student with an access to their cloud, thus facilitating them with the regular updates on effective logistics and relocation services etc.
